Measuring Histories
In 1985, country music legend Roy Acuff generously established an endowment to enrich the arts community at APSU and in Clarksville - Montgomery County. The result was the Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence, which brings regionally and nationally acclaimed artists to APSU to share their artistic innovation with students and the community in a dynamic atmosphere of unrestricted creativity. The Acuff Chair of Excellence is administered by the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts at APSU. The prestigious endowment rotates through APSU’s four arts departments on a four-year cycle. This year’s Acuff Chair, Sonya Clark was selected by the Department of Art and Design faculty after a wide range of prospective courses was submitted by leading artists in a number of disciplines. Measuring Histories, proposed by Clark, stood out as a singular, extraordinary opportunity for APSU students to work with a visionary artist whose personal practice addresses vital issues in both the art community and the greater culture. This 100 page catalog documented the class from day one to the wonderfully diverse gallery show at the end of the semester and was an on-demand printing by Blurb.
